My name is Chanay—I’m a singer-songwriter, actor, voice actor, and entrepreneur. I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember, intertwining heartfelt emotions and real-world inspirations into my lyrics. As an emerging artist, I’ve released two songs, available on all streaming platforms.
My songwriting spans multiple genres, showcasing my adaptability across styles like country, rock, and jazz. However, my primary genres include R&B, Pop, Soul, Dancehall, Reggae, and Afrobeats.
My goal as a songwriter is to craft music that connects, inspires and creates a path for stories to be told.

My songwriting is a fusion of rhythm, soul and storytelling, shaped by the legends who came before me.
Bunji Garlin’s high-energy soca anthems inspire me to create music that moves people both physically and emotionally. Queen Latifah’s bold lyricism and powerful presence remind me that music can be both a statement and a force for change.
The rich, soulful tones of Coco Jones and Sam Cooke have taught me the beauty of vocal expression, how a single note can carry a world of emotion. Michael Jackson’s ability to blend infectious melodies with deep storytelling pushes me to write songs that are both timeless and unforgettable.
My aunt, Olivia Otim, has also been a huge influence. Her encouragement, wisdom and incredible songs have helped guide me as I navigate the industry.
And then there’s Lauryn Hill. Her seamless blend of hip-hop, R&B and raw, poetic lyricism has shaped the way I approach music, ensuring that every word I write carries weight and meaning.
Beyond the artists who influence me, I draw inspiration from the world around me, the stories I hear, the emotions I feel and the cultures I embrace.
My goal is to create music that resonates, that connects, that lasts.

My songwriting is deeply rooted in freestyling, allowing creativity to flow naturally and without limitations. Rather than starting with pen and paper, I let the melodies, rhythms and lyrics emerge organically as I vibe with the beat. This process helps me capture raw emotion and authenticity, making each song feel alive and spontaneous.
Blending elements of R&B, Pop, Soul, Dancehall, Reggae and Afrobeats, I craft songs that are both rhythmic and soulful, energetic yet personal and relatable. Whatever the type of song, my approach ensures each track reflects the moment it was created in.
By embracing freestyling, I tap into pure emotion, allowing my music to become an unfiltered expression of my thoughts, feelings and experiences. It’s not just about writing songs it’s about capturing a story in its most organic form.
