From Heart to Melody: The Story Behind the Song

This song came to me on my way back from an acting class. It was late, pushing midnight; I’d been on the Tube and was now on the bus, almost close to reaching home.

On this bus journey, I started reflecting on the themes of my past two songs, Monae and Overworked Mind, which were about overcoming struggles, breaking bad habits, and owning your journey. Someone had asked me how I could explore an even more uplifting side in my music, which got me thinking about joy, beauty, and the moments that make your heart flutter, as if gravity doesn’t exist.

The melody started to flow through me, and on this loud, unsurprisingly packed bus, I took my phone out and pressed voice record, humming the melody into it. The excitement and feelings were so big and loud that I ended up writing the first draft right there and then — and that’s how the song was born.
